About my work
I’ve always been engaged in seeing shapes, patterns and colours in the natural world. As a teenager I would spend hours collecting shells or sea glass on beaches, like a child pocketing them to take home.
At university, I was heavily influenced by landscapes that I have a deep connection to. I look for shapes and colours around and using big expressive marks transferred these onto large squares of paper to remove any connotations of how the piece should be viewed.
Recently I have done a deep dive back into drawing and mark making with graphite and ink. Re-discovering my intrigue, looking for the colours, shapes and textures around me as I walk the woods, roam the coast or the hills.
As a mother to three children, I spend a lot of my time at home or treading the same paths repeatedly and having small snippets of time, I make drawings of my immediate environment which I have been turning into prints and artists books.
I’m currently exploring print making, monotypes in particular as I can achieve the marks and a painterly style that links to work from my past.
